Menil Collection to Add Groovy Food Truck-Inspired Cafe, Courtesy of Rice Building Workshop
Over the next two years, Rice architecture students will find their work in company with that of Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano, as the Rice Building Workshop builds a cafe for the Menil Collection campus. Construction on the cafe will begin next spring, and it will open the year after that, according to a release.

The cafe's design is inspired by one of Houston's favorite culinary quirks: the food truck. It will feature a glass-wall front and solid walls wrapping the south and north facades to block views of the parking lot. The walls can also be used to project films. The roof will slant downward toward the southern exposure and cover an outdoor deck.
The cafe "will embrace the latest green technologies, involving minimal energy use, solar power, natural light and all other aspects of sustainability," according to the release.
