After more than 14 years on the staff of DiverseWorks, Co-Executive Director/Visual Arts Curator Diane Barber is leaving to pursue independent projects, according to a release. With her departure, the other co-executive director (and performing arts curator), Sixto Wagan, has been appointed to the position of artistic director and DiverseWorks board member and Houston artist William Betts will become interim co-executive director. Wagan and Betts begin their new jobs effective today. Barber will depart on September 30.

"I've worked with Diane for over a decade," Wagan told Art Attack. "She's been a great colleague and she's always going to do interesting work."

Barber, who has curated more than 60 projects for DiverseWorks, will still occasionally work with the art space, including the upcoming "State Fair" exhibit that opens September 9.

"It's exciting, there's a lot of change happening," Wagan said. "I think it is a great thing to continue be working with artists who are not defined by a single area or medium."
