What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?
The Museum of Broken Relationships will take up temporary residence at the Blaffer Art Museum starting May
21 but the reason Art Attack is talking about this now is that you can be a part of it.
Yes, channel that heartbreak and angst into a force for good by donating any object that won't let you forget your own sad story. According to a press release that has gone out:
The exhibition will feature detritus from failed relationships - be it a wedding dress, an old Love You teddy bear, or a set of fuzzy handcuffs - donated to the museum by people from around the world. Objects from the permanent collection will be on view alongside ephemera offered by Houstonians and AAM conference attendees looking to exhibit their own love legacy. The exhibit will open at Blaffer Art Museum on Saturday, May 21, and will be on view through June 4.
To donate your object, please complete the following steps: 1. Visit www.brokenships.com 2. Click on SEND YOUR EXHIBIT 3. Submit your completed Intent to Donate Form online Print out your Donate Form (it will be emailed to you) and bring it with your object in person to the Blaffer Art Museum between April 26 - May 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m, Tuesdays through Fridays. All donations are non returnable.
The exhibit, being presented in collaboration with the American Association of Museums, is the brainchild of Olinka Vistica and Drazen Grubisic of Croatia. "The artists strongly believe in the arts as a path to emotional catharsis, and that by interacting with the intimate stories of others, our cultural and political differences dissolve into a shared common experience," the press release said.
The Museum of Broken Relationships will run May 20 through June 4 at the Blaffer Art Museum, University of Houston, 120 Fine Arts Building Houston.
