Mark Ballas Burns For You (In Song) UPDATED
Chances are good that multi-talented heartthrob Mark Ballas of Dancing With the Stars fame won't just be dancing in Burn the Floor -- he'll be making his singing debut in the show on opening night in Houston, December 14.
A friend of Art Attack told us that Ballas "will probably" be singing the song "Burn for You" and that would be the first time he's done so.
As previously reported, Ballas is joining the national tour of Burn the Floor for three cities -- Raleigh, North Carolina; Houston and Pittsburgh. He's a friend of director and choreographer Jason Gilkison and said he saw this as a good opportunity between all his other projects, including a CD release he's working on.
Burn the Floor is known for its two hours of dance with no spoken lines other than two vocalists who sing sporadically. Ballas had already promised two hours of hard, foot-stomping excitement -- adding his singing can only up the ante for the show's first night at the Hobby.
Art Attack has calls in and will update on whether Ballas will be singing for the rest of the run in Houston.
Update: Harley Medcalf, producer of Burn The Floor, says: "Mark will sing and play guitar in Burn for You through Houston and Pittsburgh."
Medcalf said they decided to have Ballas add to his performance because: " He is a just as much a singer and musician as he is an amazing dancer. We wanted to give Mark the opportunity to showcase all his talents. Normally our guest star would always dance the rumba solo in Burn for You. Mark singing his particular song is going to bring a whole different level to it. He knows, understands and feels the chemistry of a rumba as a dancer, so his vocal interpretation is going to be so real and emotional and connect with Janette Manrara and Jeremy Garner who will dance this piece."
The Gexa Energy/Broadway Across America production of Burn the Floor runs December 14-19 at the Hobby Center, 800 Bagby. Tickets are available at Broadway Across America or by phone at 800-982-2787.
