Talk about opening night jitters. January 12 will be opening night for both God of Carnage at the Alley Theatre and (a few blocks over) for the revitilized English-Spanish national tour of West Side Story brought to the Hobby Center by Gexa Energy/Broadway Across America.

Normally, head-to-head opening nights don't happen in Houston's theater community. But it not only will happen in January with these two shows, but in February as well when August: Osage County opens on Wednesday, February 23 at the Alley opposite the Theatre Under the Stars/BAA's powerhouse Billy Elliott.

The conflict, as it were, is due to the Wednesday night openings of both BAA touring shows.

The Jets: the cast of West Side Story
Normally Broadway Across America opens here on a Tuesday night, but Art Attack was told that sometimes that changes depending on the last city's schedule or the casts' need for a little more rest.

All four shows have generated a lot of buzz, and it's not like there won't be plenty of other opportunities to see them during their Houston runs. But for the folks who like to be there on opening night, some tough decisions are going to have to be made.

Tickets for God of Carnage and August:Osage County are available at www.alleytheatre.org or by calling 713-220-5700. Tickets for West Side Story and Billy Elliot are available at www.broadwayacrossamerica.com and www.tuts.com.
