Today, Swamplot reported that the abandoned Falstaff Brewery in Galveston will act as one of the shooting locations for the Epiphany Filmwerks production Hellstorm, about a group of architecture students trapped at the locale during a hurricane. Although Galveston city officials have labeled the asbestos-riddled building a public safety hazard, the island's film liaison has apparently given the greenlight for shooting. Writer/director Keith Smith will helm the project for Epiphany, which--according to its website--appears to have been created specifically for Hellstorm. Shooting is scheduled to begin this fall.
Another famous and abandoned Galveston site, Sea-Arama, closed in 1990 and was eventually demolished in 2006. Art Attack always thought the deteriorating Sea World-style park would've made a terrific horror-film locale, especially due to the rumors that some of the staff squatted the place after its closing, living in squalor and even eating the sea animals that weren't able to be relocated to other parks (cringe).
